Obituary for Linda Ghent
Linda Darlene Ghent, 70, of Harrisburg, Illinois, died on September 24, 2017. She is survived by her husband, Bill Leighman Ghent, Jr., also of Harrisburg, her son, Bill Leighman Ghent III, of Washington, D.C., and her beloved dog, Sophie.
Linda was born in Harrisburg on May 25, 1947, to the late Cloyde Lane and Peggy Ann Lane. She was preceded in death by a sister, Terry Lynn, who died in 1967.
A graduate of Harrisburg High School in 1965, Linda attended Southeastern Illinois College before graduating from Southern Illinois University in 1970. She married Bill, whom she always called “Willie,” on March 24, 1967. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
A teacher by training, Linda eventually became a homemaker and full-time mom after her son Bill was born in 1971. In 1973, Bill and Linda bought Bill Ghent Inc., after the death of Bill Ghent, Sr. Linda served as vice president of the insurance agency at the time of her death.
Linda was an active member of the American Association of University Women and the First United Methodist Church, where she served on the education and worship committees.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, October 6th, at the First United Methodist Church, 122 W. Poplar Street, Harrisburg, Illinois. The funeral will be at 11 am on Saturday, October 7th, also at the First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg or the St. Francis Care Animal Shelter, 6228 Country Club Road, Murphysboro, IL 62966 (stfrancis-care.org). The J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements.
