Ruby Milligan, a cherished matriarch and beacon of warmth in her community, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 89 in Eldorado, Illinois. Born on November 9, 1935, in Thompsonville, Illinois, Ruby was the beloved daughter of the late Noble Steinsultz and Mary Heflin Steinsultz, and later, the stepdaughter to Neva Steinsultz. Ruby married Bert Milligan on September 29, 1956 and he preceded her in death July 1, 2015.
Ruby's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her passion for caring for others. She was the loving wife of the late Bert Milligan, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Ruby's legacy continues through her children, David (Sharon) Milligan, Debbie (Ron) Russell, and Darlene Milligan and her sister Freda Thomason as well as her cherished grandchildren, Angie Dunning, Jennifer (Jonah) Butler, Misty (Nathan) Eftink, Damian (Katie) Milligan, Tiffanie (Dalton) Travis, Wayne Milligan, and Holly Milligan, and her adored great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Leroy Steinsultz, sister Marida Graham and son Earl Milligan.
Ruby's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, beginning her career at Lightner Hospital and later serving the community at Shawnee House facility. Her compassionate care and gentle demeanor left a lasting impact on all those she helped throughout her career.
Ruby's zest for life was evident in her love for cooking, which led her to own and operate her own restaurant, where she shared her culinary talents with many. Her love for music was a constant thread throughout her life, from playing the violin in high school to creating harmonious memories with her family.
Ruby's presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt. Her life was a testament to the power of love, care, and the joy that comes from making others happy. As we say goodbye to Ruby Milligan, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and grace. Her spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Funeral services for Ruby Milligan will be 1:00 PM Sunday October 12, 2025 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home with Bro. Ted Boulds officiating and burial to follow at Lindale Cemetery in Eldorado. Friends may call after 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
