Obituary for Wilma Jean Simpson
Wilma Jean (Banks) Simpson of Harrisburg passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2022. She was born on December 13, 1931, to Essie (Banks) Anderson and Loyd Banks, both from Harrisburg, Illinois. Her life was completely devoted to her family.
She was a member of McKinley Baptist Church and choir. Wilma and her husband, D.C. Simpson, were avid supporters of the Harrisburg community. In 2020, loved by all in the community, Wilma was named the Grand Marshall of the Harrisburg Lights Christmas Parade.
On August 22, 1952, Wilma married D.C. Simpson who preceded her in death on September 15, 2011. Also preceding her in death are sisters Mary Lou Angelly and Wanda Angelly, and brothers L.J. Banks and Delbert Banks and half siblings, Gladys Partain and Charles Banks.
She is survived by her three children, Bobby Gene (Cathy) Simpson, Richard (Cindy) Simpson, Beth (David) Montfort; grandchildren: Jennifer Simpson (Josh Mikey), Emily (John Tom) Douglas, Clint Simpson (Blaine Campbell), Melissa Simpson (Paul Tikusis), Kalin (Morgan) Lawler, Dawson (Mahala) Montfort, Cody (Crista) Riggle; great-grandchildren: Grant, Evan, Haley, Marshall, Graci, Oliver, Finley, Maya, Jovi, Miller; Wilma’s special nieces and nephew: Dana (Denny) Murray, Cindy Angelly; and special friend, Doris Lane. Special thanks to all the caregivers for all the love and care they have given her through the years.
She is also survived by sisters-in-law Opal Simpson and Norma (Gale) Travelstead; brothers-in-law Bimp (Paulette) Simpson and Ronnie (Lisa) Simpson, along with many nieces and nephews.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be profoundly missed by all.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Winkleman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, Illinois. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Golden Circle.
