Obituary for Thomas Henry Dewar
Thomas Henry Dewar, age 75 of Cave in Rock, Illinois passed away 2:30 P.M. Monday, June 28, 2021 at his residence. He was born February 22, 1946 in Harrisburg, Illinois to Henry and Romaine Flannel Dewar. Tom worked as a mechanic in various coalmines throughout the region such as Peabody Eagle II, Will Scarlet, and retired from Sahara Coal Company after thirty years. He also owned and operated Dewar Auto Repair and married Robbie Anderson Dewar and she survives.
Tom was a very mechanically inclined person as he built a runabout boat in fourth grade and claimed to do his first valve job on an engine in sixth grade. He was a man that could construct anything from a house or build his own paint booth for his hot rods. He was very fond of hot rods and drag racing. In his lifetime, he has built three drag racing cars from the ground up and restoring two other cars. He always enjoyed drag racing and going to car shows. Tom also had a love for the Ohio River. He grew up on the river as a boy and thoroughly enjoyed boating and teaching people how to water ski. He organized several long distance boat trips with his friends to Louisville, Kentucky and Nashville, Tennessee just to name a few. Tom also enjoyed hunting and fishing on his property in the Battery Rock area of Cave In Rock. Tom will be sadly missed by his loved ones and numerous friends.
Surviving are his wife, Robbie Dewar. Daughter, Robyn Piche (David) of Lake of Egypt. Son, Scott Dewar (Heather) of Harrisburg, Illinois. Step son, Chad Farris of Makanda, Illinois. Three grandchildren, Taryn Dewar of Harrisburg, Illinois, Whitney Onysio (Matt) of Dallas, Texas and Tori Luce (Ryan) of Springfield, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Romaine Dewar and father, Henry Dewar.
Visitation from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg, Illinois.
