Skylar Drake "The Legend" Henshaw, a cherished soul known affectionately as Skylar to his friends and family, left this world on January 15, 2025, at the age of 40. Born on December 29, 1984, in Harrisburg, Illinois, where he also drew his last breath, Skylar's journey was one marked by love, laughter, and a legendary spirit that touched all who knew him.
Skylar was the beloved son of April Henshaw of Eldorado, Illinois, and the late Randy Moss and the late Willard Brown. He was the loving partner of McKenzie Stewart, with whom he shared a life full of joy and companionship in their hometown of Harrisburg. Skylar's legacy continues through his children, Skylar Henshaw Jr. of Belleville, Sylas Henshaw and Kace Jackson of Harrisburg, Cori Parrott of Chicago, Laylah, Scarlett, and Drake Leigh Henshaw of Harrisburg, and Kaylex Gibbs of Harrisburg. He was a devoted brother to Caleb Moss of Harrisburg, Jarren Goldman of St. Louis, Jeremy Brown of Harrisburg, Mariah Moss of St. Louis and Brooklyn Goldman of Harrisburg and his former wife, Candace Peters Henshaw of Belleville.
Skylar's early education was rooted in the Harrisburg Schools, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a passion for community and service. After completing his education, he embarked on a journey that would lead him to become the proud owner of Herbies Soul Food & Barbeque. His establishment was a hub of warmth and hospitality, where Skylar's larger-than-life personality and his knack for storytelling made every guest feel like family.
Those who knew Skylar will remember him for his infectious smile, his hearty laugh, and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He had a way of making the ordinary extraordinary, and his presence was a source of comfort and joy to many. Skylar's love for life was evident in everything he did, from the meticulous care he put into his business to the playful adventures he embarked on with his children.
Skylar's impact on the community was immeasurable. He was a man who believed in giving back, and his involvement in the New Life Christian Center Church in Equality reflected his commitment to making a difference. Services for Skylar Drake "The Legend" Henshaw will be1:00 PM Tuesday at the New Life Christian Center Church with Rev. Blake Clayton officiating and burial to follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 AM at the Church. His journey on earth may have concluded, but his story—etched in the memories of those he loved—will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Skylar; your legend lives on.
