Robert Eugene (Bobby Gene) Simpson passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 16, 2025. He was born July 1, 1953 to Denzil and Wilma (Banks) Simpson who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Cathy Allen Simpson and his children Jennifer Simpson (Josh), Emily Simpson Douglas (John Tom), and Cody Riggle (Crista); his grandchildren Grant Noelle, Evan Noelle, Graci Robinson, Oliver Douglas, Miller Riggle; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Cindy Simpson; his sister Beth Montfort and brother-in-law David; nephews Clint Simpson (Blaine) and Dawson Montfort (Hali), nieces Melissa Simpson Tikusis (Paul) and Kalin Lawler (Morgan); and his former wife and mother of his daughters, Beth Barger. He is also survived by his aunt, Norma Travelstead (Gale), uncles Ronnie Simpson (Lisa), Bimp Simpson (Paulette), their families, and many cousins.
Bobby was a graduate of HHS class of 1971 and SIC class of 1973. He began his career working for Denny & Simpson Trucking for approximately 20 years. He then ventured on his own and created Southern Resource Management. He was also an owner of Little Egypt Distributing and Crossroads Trucking. Bobby was involved in sales with Martin Marietta and La Farge/Holcim. He belonged to a variety of organizations throughout the years including Midwest Truckers Association, Eldorado Men’s Club, Jaycees, Masonic Lodge, Sons of the American Legion, and Harrisburg Elks Lodge 1058.
Bobby was an avid hunter and fisherman. He took pride in many reclamation and conservation projects. Bobby loved to hunt and fish with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. His favorite hunting locations were South Dakota, Pope County, and his own property known as “Saxton”.
Bobby was a Christian. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He will be missed by his family, his friends and all who knew him as “Bobby Gene”.
Funeral Services will be held at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home, Harrisburg IL. Visitation will take place Tuesday, January 21st from 4p-8p with Masonic rites at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 22nd at 11am with burial to follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date, per Bobby’s request.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heaven’s Kitchen, Harrisburg, IL which may be left at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home.
