Nancy “Elaine” Myers, 87 of Harrisburg, Illinois, passed away at her family residence on Friday, April 12th at 1:10 pm. She was surrounded by her daughter, Marta, her son-in-law, Bruce, her longtime friend, Hazel Tucker and her caregiver, Sheila Brown. Elaine was born at her family home during the ’37’ Flood on January 22, 1937 to Clint “Syd” Endsley and Lillian Gertrude (Carrier) Endsley.
She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-five years, George Myers, an infant sister, Sally, her parents Syd and Lillian, her daughter Cindy (Myers) Galeener, her son Clint Ferrell as well as her two sisters, Mary Anne Alexander and Katie Poulos.
Elaine is survived by her daughter Marta Rollins-Cline, grandchildren Cortney (Rollins) Miles, John David Rollins, Justin Ferrell, Jake Ferrell, Lane Ferrell and Kylie Ferrell. In addition, she is survived by sixteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and one brother-in-law, Bill Poulos. Elaine is also survived by her longtime companion, Russel Johnson.
Elaine completed her GED and received an Associate Degree in Childhood Education. Following this wonderful accomplishment, Elaine became a Teacher’s Aid for special Needs children at East Side School in Harrisburg. Her career began in the early 1990’s and ended upon her retirement in the mid- 2000’s as she continued to work as a substitute.
Throughout her lifetime, Elaine was actively involved in church life as a Sunday School Teacher at the Pankeyville Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher for approximately thirty years and was instrumental in leading numerous children to Christ.
In addition, Elaine has a long history of varied roles within the Saline County Farm Bureau. She became a member of the Farm Bureau upon marriage to George Myers. Elaine was selected as Farm Wife of the year in 1976. In 1985 she served as Acting Secretary of the Women’s Committee and during August of that year she represented the Saline County Farm Bureau in Washington, D.C. Elaine became the Women’s Committee Chair in 1990, in 1994-2022 she was a Saline County Farm Bureau Board Member, and she was the first and only woman to serve on the Saline County Farm Bureau Board of Directors up to present time.
Elaine spent approximately sixty years of her life living on, working with and tending to farm life. She fed numerous farm hands during season, drove the tractor, fed the livestock, gardened, canned and served many family meals.
Services will be held at the Pankeyville Baptist Church on Thursday, April 18, 2024 with Weirauch Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and services will follow. Reverend Ernie Fowler will officiate and grandson, Jake Ferrell will be provide the Eulogy. Envelopes will be provided at the church for donations made to the Pankeyville Baptist Church.
Instead of saying “good bye”, as Elaine would always say upon her departure, “Merry Christmas”.
