Obituary for Miriam Louise Clingman

Miriam Louise Clingman age 79 received her wings at 4:59 PM Wednesday October 16, 2024. She was born February 27, 1945 to Charles Turner and Henrietta Motley Turner Moss in Harrisburg, Illinois. On January 16, 1965 she married Delbert Anderson Clingman in the chapel at Scott Airforce Base in Belleville, Illinois.


Miriam went to elementary and high school in Harrisburg and enjoyed being around her family and friends. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Harrisburg. She dearly loved visiting her grandmother Stella Motley listening to all the stories she would tell about her childhood. Miriam was always in the kitchen with her mother Henrietta where she developed her love for cooking. Miriam was well known for her divinity and fudge every year around Christmas An article was published in the DePue, IL newspaper for her famous recipes and cooking in 1986.


The community loved her cooking so much that in June of 1990 she opened her own sit down restaurant called Miriam’s Menu on Raymond Street in Harrisburg. Later on she downsized and moved to 402 E. Walnut St in Harrisburg where she did a carry out menu for 5 years from her restaurant there. After closing her carry out restaurant she was a cook at Brookstone Estates, Villas Of Hollybrook and The Golden Circle where she retired from 3 time and finally hanging up her apron August 30, 2024.


Surviving Miriam is her husband of 59 years Delbert Clingman, her children Belinda (Mike) Musterd of Glen Carbon, IL, Scott Clingman of Harrisburg, Stephanie (Salvador) Gonzalez of Harrisburg along with her siblings Cecil Leon (Doris) Turner of Springfield, IL, Lowell (Laura) Moss of Carrier Mills, IL, Elizabeth Jones of Burnsville, MN, Nona Rice of Marion, IL, Beverly Sanders of Harrisburg, IL. Winfred Moss and William Moss both of Harrisburg and Raymond Moss of Centralia, IL Grandchildren; Terrance W. Buckner, Tanisha L. Spaulding, Joshua Maggio, Shawnte Avila, Afina Ventura, Marcos Gonzalez, Sidney Gonzalez, Liam Gonzalez, Tamica Foster, Isiah Clingman, Corrine Clingman and Jaxon Trigg. 2 great grand children, Saevon Buckner and Kaevin Spaulding and 1 great great grandson Kahlil Buckner. Miriam also dearly loved her fur babies and leaves to morn her spoiled Yorkie Terrier Tito.


Preceding her in death are her parents Henrietta Motley Turner Moss and Charles Turner, Stepfather Walter T. Moss, maternal grandparents Stella and William McKinley Motley and paternal grandparents Mose and Edith Turner. Her children, Ethel Renae Turner, Delbert (D.B.) Clingman and Chauncey Clingman along with her siblings, sisters Charlotte Taborn and Debra Moss Wilkins and brothers Walter Moss Jr. and Randy Moss.


Funeral services for Miriam Louise Clingman will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 21, 2024 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with Bishop Albert Ingram officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until service time.
