Obituary for Lena Roper
Lena Roper 87 of Harrisburg passed away 7:32 AM Monday, May 9, 2016 at her residence. She was born November 21, 1928 in Harrisburg, IL the daughter of Aaron Crid and Mabel Tavender Jackson. She married Bill Roper on January 25, 1948 in Arkansas and he preceded her in death April 3, 2003. Lena retired as Superintendant of Water and Sewer Department in Harrisburg where she had worked for over 30 years. She was a member of the Harrisburg First United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, Order Of The Eastern Star, White Shrine, Rebekah Lodge and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are 1 son Bill & Katherine Roper of Pulaski, TN. 2 daughters, Kathy & Waldon Morris and Keri & Jody Shimp all of Harrisburg, 1 Sister, Nora B. Oldham, M.D. of Ponte Verde, FL and 5 grandchildren, Erik Roper, Angela Morris, Nicole Stewart, Sami Cox and Kelly Shimp, 5 great grandchildren, Dilynn Roper, Madison Roper, Dominic Roper, Kinzley Stewart and Adalyn Stewart. Lena is also survived by her loving caregivers who also became her family, Patty Hedger, Cecilia Parks, Kim Upchurch, Nina Carter, April Fowler and Terah Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill Roper, grandson Aaron Winters, 1 brother Jack Jackson and 5 sisters, Celeste Jackson, Mary Tanner, Gertrude Johnson, Tottie Fritts and Delores “Dodie” Johnson.
Funeral Services for Lena Roper will be 1:00 PM Saturday, 14, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg with Pastor Christine Cunningham officiating and burial in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Harrisburg First United Methodist Church after 11:00 AM. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg in her memory. Envelopes will be available at the church, The J. M. Weirauch is in charge of arrangements.
