Lela Mae Ewell 100 of Harrisburg passed away February 13, 2026 in Harrisburg. Lela was born October 10, 1925 in Mitchellsville the daughter of Steve and Ida Mae Keneipp Mitchell. She was married to Delmar Ewell and he passed away on March 31, 2021. Lela taught school for 62 years in the Harrisburg Unit 3 School District. She graduated in the first class at Southeastern Illinois College. She was a member of McKinley Ave Baptist Church.
Lela is survived by her 2 children, Kimble (Rhonda) Ewell of Stonefort and Vickie Milstead of Eldorado. 9 grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn (Joe Hanley, Leslie Ann (Joe) Kassebaum, Byron Keith Ewell, Kimberly Shea (Jesper) Kamp, Erin Kate (Warren) Rollman, Ryan Deal (Alecia) Ewell, Grant Joseph Twiss, Ginger Renee (Christopher) Blue and Gerad Michael (Aleyia) Milstead. 19 great grandchilkdren, Joey Hanley, Caty Hanley, Anna Magruder, Aaron Magruder, Braxton Phillips, Sebastian Kamp, William Kamp, Fineulia Kamp, Victor Rollman, Judge Rollman, Lawrence Rollman, Evangeline Rollman, Hazel Ewell, Theodore Ewell, Miriam Ewell, Isla Twiss, Olivia Vaughn, Kennedy Blue an Carson Blue and 1 great great grandchild Beau Hanley.
Preceding Lela in death are her parents, Steve and Ida Mitchell, her husband Delmar, 1 brother Henry Mitchell and 2 sisters, Nina Gullett and Phyllis Jones.
Funeral services for Lela Ewell will be 1:00 PM Tuesday February 17, 2026 at the Dorrisville Baptist Church with Rev. Carlton Binkley officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Cemetery south of Harrisburg. Visitation at the church will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The family has asked that memorials be made to the Dorrisville Baptist Youth Ministry and may be left at the church. Services are under the direction of the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home.
