Katherine Louise "Katie" Murphy passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Illinois. Born on November 28, 1959, in Belleville, Illinois. Katie’s parents were the late Louis and Dixie Pankey Murphy.
She attended Harrisburg High School, where she graduated with the class of 1977, forming friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. After completing her education, Katie dedicated several years of her life working at the cap factory in Harrisburg, where her hardworking nature and friendly demeanor made her a well-respected employee. She later joined the team at Walmart, where she continued to touch the lives of those around her with her kindness and reliability.
Katie is survived by her daughter Melissa and husband J.D. Carman, brother Alan and wife Kathleen Murphy, sister Becky Taborn, granddaughter Piper Carman, grandson J. D. Carman, Jr. and step mother Pam Murphy along with a step sister, step brothers and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Murphy and Dixie Murphy, husband Larry “Spider” Mayberry and a sister Sarah Beal.
Her radiant smile and generous heart touched countless lives, and her legacy of warmth and compassion will continue to live on through those who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we bid farewell to Katie, we reflect on a life well-lived, marked by genuine connections, a passion for the simple pleasures in life, and a heart always open to giving and receiving love. Katie's story is not one of sorrow but of a life that inspired and uplifted everyone she encountered.
Graveside services will precede burial in Cottage Grove Cemetery Monday November 25, 2024 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Jack Richardson officiating.
