Obituary for Joyce Ann Atkinson
Joyce Ann Atkinson of Harrisburg died Thursday, November 7, 2019 at home after a 6-year battle with lung cancer. She was born December 31, 1952 to John Richard Patton and Betty (Flynn) Stone. On September 18, 1976, she married Kenny Atkinson.
Joyce’s first job was at Don Wilson’s Drive-in and her last was at Suzy’s Laundry. She loved spending time with her family. Most weekends were spent with her grandkids camping and boating on the Ohio River. She enjoyed all the local festivals and parades as well as going to the “boat” and horseraces. She lived her life to the fullest right up to the end.
She is survived by her husband Kenny and mother Betty as well as her daughters Amy (Tim) Whiting and Tracy (Jack) Bethel, both of Harrisburg. Her grandchildren: Austin Lowery of St. Louis, Missouri, Bradyn and Caleigh Whiting and Jaxen and Jalyn Bethel of Harrisburg, Illinois.
Brothers: John (Becky) Patton of Harrisburg, Illinois, Frank (Rita) Patton, Harrisburg and Mike (Tami) Stone, Carrier Mills, Illinois.
Sisters: Carolyn (Vincent) Besheres, Carrier Mills, Illinois and Shirley (Ron) Fearheiley, Harrisburg, Illinois. Half-sister Jonell Bratton Sardis, Tennessee.
Brother-in-Law: Bill Atkinson, Ridgeway, Illinois.
Sister-in-Law: Gusta Atkinson and Mary Atkinson both of Harrisburg, Illinois.
A host of nieces and nephews.
Special friends Suzy and Ink Sucharitakul.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stepfather Huie Stone, Mother & Father-in-Law Pat and Mildred Atkinson, Sister Sue Ellen Stone, Brothers-in-Law Chelsea and Jerry Atkinson, Nephew Shawn Patton.
Visitation will be at J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 with the funeral at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, November 10, 2019. Burial will be at Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
