Obituary for Joseph Franklin Pickering
Joseph Franklin Pickering, age 86, of Harrisburg, IL passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.
Joe was born on February 21, 1933 to the late Theodore Raymond Pickering and Mabel Jane Pickering Lewis. On November 24, 1975, he married Lavada June Woodiel Shackleford. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2016. Joe was a member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving family members include: Son, Ron Pickering and wife Julie of New Iberia, Louisiana. Daughter, Melinda Pickering and fiancé Brea Trundle of Lawrence, Kansas. Step-son, Jon Shackleford and wide Christy of Marion, Kentucky. Grandsons, Chase, Dalton (Hope), and Morgan Pickering. Granddaughter, Serenity Pickering. Step-grandchildren, Kasey (Matt) Shackleford Buckman, Aaron Shackleford. Great grandson, Malachi Pickering. Step-great granddaughter Mattie Buckman and step-grandson Danny Ammon. Sister, Judy Parish and husband Jim of Harrisburg. Sisters-in-law, Peggy (Bill)Pickering and Brenda Davis and husband Farrell of Galatia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Bill Pickering and step-sons, Curt and Jeff Shackleford, and step granddaughter, Jonna Shackleford.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Rev. Ron Reed will officiate. Burial will follow at Tate’s Chapel Cemetery in Galatia. Visitation will be held from 11:00am till 1:00pm preceding the funeral.
