Obituary for John D. Bishop
John D. Bishop, 85, of Harrisburg, Illinois passed away peacefully Monday, April 8, 2024. He was born on May 19, 1938 in Raleigh, Illinois to Eugene and Hattie (Peyton) Bishop. John was an avid Bulldog and Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren after retirement, often tutoring them. He graduated from SIU earned his Master’s degree from University of Illinois, taught High school, taught journalism at University of Wisconsin, worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield and served as city treasurer for Raleigh.
Surviving are his two sons, John David Bishop of Mt Vernon, Illinois and Brent Bishop of River Falls, Wisconsin. Two daughters, Barbara Milligan of Stonefort, Illinois and Latonia Prochnaw of River Falls, Wisconsin. Brother, Roger Bishop of Tucson, Arizona. Sister, Connie Tuttle of Harrisburg, Illinois. Ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many close friends.
John was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 12, 2024 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg, Illinois with Rev. Keith Ital officiating. Burial will follow in Raleigh Masonic Cemetery in Raleigh, Illinois. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 12, 2024 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home.
