Obituary for Joe Phillips
Joe Phillips 74 of Harrisburg passed away 1:06 AM Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Eldorado. He was born December 9, 1941 in Harrisburg, the son of Rudy Phillips and Wilma R. Crest. Joe was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was the caretaker of Saline Baptist Church. He worked at the A. L. Bowen Childrens Center until it closed and went into corrections and retiring from I.Y.C. He worked at Harrisburg Medical Center for many years as security. Joe was a 5 year Marine Veteran.
Joe was a wonderful person with a heart that was larger than the moon. There is not a person who grew up in the Harrisburg area that can’t remember Joe Phillips and his animals that were all tame enough to pet. Every child who came to Joe’s house to ride a pony got that pony given to them with the stipulation that it stay at Joe’s farm. That one pony had thousands of happy owners. Joe was a good man.
Joe is survived by his sister Sue (Larry) Field of Harrisburg and Robert Law of Normal. He was preceded in death by his Father, his mother, his stepfather Finis Law and a brother Edward Phillips.
Funeral services for Joe Phillips will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Hicks officiating and burial in Elmwood Cemetery in Equality. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Friday, October 14, 2016 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
