Obituary for James (Jim) Guard
James M. (Jim) Guard 81 of Harrisburg passed away at 7:00 AM Sunday, February 05, 2017 at his residence. He was born October 12, 1935 in Harrisburg to Mearl and Millicent Wallace Guard. He was married to Shirley Crain Guard and she survives. Jim was a graduate of SIU Carbondale, a life member of Harrisburg Lodge #325 AF&AM, honorary life member of Hadi Shrine Temple, Evansville, IN, a 50 year member of the Ainad Shrine Temple, East St. Louis, IL, member of Valley Of Southern Illinois Scottish Rites 32 degree Mason, 50 year member of the Harrisburg Elks Club, served on the Harrisburg Firemans and Police Merit board, a member of Eldorado Mens Club and Member of Harrisburg Second Team, Jim retired as Vice President of Barter Construction Co. He was a member of the Harrisburg First United Methodist Church.
Jim is survived by his wife Shirley, 2 sons; Mark & Jan Guard of Paducah and Ajeff & Joyce Guard of Harrisburg. 5 grandchildren; Erin Ulrich of Paducah, Mitch Guard of Ozark, Adam of Harrisburg, Jason Brannock of Harrisburg and Erin Owens of Lebanon, TN. 12 great grandchildren; Matthew Guard, Chloe Guard, Emma Guard, Logan Guard, Allie Brannock, Avrey Brannock, Adele Brannock, Joseph Ulrich, Dominic Ulrich, Vincent Ulrich, Colbie Owens and Rhett Owens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother David Guard.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Harrisburg First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Christine Cunningham officiating and burial in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the church. The J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Harrisburg First United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
