Obituary for James I. (Jim) Black
James I. Black, 91, of Harrisburg, IL died at 1:55 P.M. Sunday, October 27, 2019 at his home with his family by his side.
Jim was born on October 14, 1928 in Karbers Ridge, IL the son of Ezra and Mabel Vinyard Black. He attended various schools until the family moved to Harrisburg when Jim began his Sophomore year in High School. He graduated from Harrisburg High School with the Class of 1946.
On September 16, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Hendren in the Hendren home in Harrisburg. They just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Jim and Betty owned and operated Egyptian Wholesale in Harrisburg for nearly 40 years.
He was a member of the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church. He was an active member of Shawnee Hills Country Club. He was a 50 year Lodge #325 A.F. & A.M., the Belleville Consistory, and Ainad Temple A.A.O.N.O.M.S, and the Egyptian Shrine Club of Harrisburg until it disbanded in 2018. He was a former member of the Harrisburg Elks Lodge #1058.
Jim is survived by his wife Betty (Hendren). They had one son Stephen and his wife Cindy Jim and Betty were blessed with twin granddaughters—Lisa (Bart)Schiff along with their two children Camden and Lynlei all of Harrisburg and Lori (Eric) McClusky and their daughter Madison of Harrisburg.
He also left behind a host of nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Mabel and Ezra Black, his Mother and Father in Law Henry and Gertrude Hendren and his older brother Adrian Black and his uncles and aunts.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M.on Thursday Oct. 31st at the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with Rev. Billie Dye, Jr officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, Oct. 30th at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shawnee Hills Country Club or Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Louis.
Burial will be in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg.
