Obituary for James F. Potts
James Freeman Potts, age 89, of Harrisburg, Illinois passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Veterans Hospital in Marion, Illinois. He was born on October 26, 1934 in Harrisburg, Illinois to Walter Eugene and Ruth (Hedger) Potts. James was member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Illinois where he proudly served as Deacon at the church. He participated in the Gidean Society and he proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 22 years. James married Wanda (Horton) Potts of Harrisburg, Illinois and cherished 15 years together and she survives.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Potts of Harrisburg, Illinois. Sons, Charles and wife Peggy Potts of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and John and wife Paula Potts of Apex, North Carolina. Step children, Nannette and husband Eddie Brooks of Harrisburg, Illinois and Janet Maxfield of Harrisburg, Illinois. Four grandchildren, Jason Potts, Lindsey Potts Creech, Sarah Potts Helms, Bryant Brooks and many step grandchildren. Thirteen great grandchildren, Jett Potts, Van James Potts, Landon Creech, Ellis Creech, Dean Brooks, Ruby Brooks, Violet Brooks, Isla Miles, Naomi Brooks, Daniel Helms, Jack Helms, Henry Helms and Luke Helms. Nieces, Ruth Abney and Debbie Stucker.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents. First wife, Martha Helen (Oxford) Potts. Son, Robert Potts. Brothers, Ralph Jennings, Floyd Jennings, Kenneth Potts, Eugene Potts and Harold Potts and sister, Minnie Allen.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg, Illinois with Rev. Blake Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery Harrisburg, Illinois. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home.
