Obituary for Gary Dwain Trammel

Gary Dwain Trammel, 86, of Harrisburg went home to be with the Lord at 3:30 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023. He was at home surrounded by his family.


Gary was born on December 30, 1936 in Saline County, Illinois to the late Omer and Marie (Ellis) Trammel Womack. On August 24, 1956, he married Beverly Brennan and she survives in Harrisburg.


Gary, along with his sister, and brothers ran the family business, Trammel Propane Co. and Trammel Plumbing. Gary enjoyed bird hunting with his close friends Claude Short, Gale Travelstead and Jim Wilson. He played football in high school and graduated from Harrisburg High School with the class of 1955. Gary left pictures he painted and drew in safekeeping with his family. He attended Southern Illinois University and his major was Art Appreciation and Commercial Art.


In addition to his wife, Beverly, Gary is survived by sons, Gary L. (Cynthia), Scott (Lori), Harrisburg, Andrew (Rebecca), Galatia, special nephew, Kent Trammel (Olga), Spring, Texas, step-brother, Charles Womack, Harrisburg, Illinois and many precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.


Gary was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alta Rittenberry, brothers, Lendell Trammel and Phillip Trammel and his daughter, Cathy (Trammel) Nelson.


Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 27, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, 122 West Poplar Street, Harrisburg, Illinois with Rev. Dr. Thomas Logsdon officiating. Burial to follow in Raleigh Masonic Cemetery, Raleigh, Illinois. Visitation from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with Masonic Rites by Blazing Star Lodge Post No 458 at 12:30.


A special “Thank You” to Hospice of Southern Illinois and “Help at Home” caregivers Shelia, Ginny and Angelia. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 122 West Poplar Street, Harrisburg, Illinois 62946 or Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
