Obituary for Ercell Rumsey
Ercell Glazier Vick Rumsey 103 of Harrisburg went to meet her Jesus at 3:45 AM Friday, March 25, 2016 at Saline Care Center. She was born October 2, 1912 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada to George and Catherine Paling Glazier. She married Perry H. Vick in Flint, MI on November 3, 1934. Perry passed away November 25, 1942 in Harrisburg, IL. They had 2 daughters, Delores and Paralee. On May 4, 1948, she married Robert (Bob) Rumsey and they had 1 son, Richard. Bob passed away April 23, 1991 in Harrisburg. She was raised in the Salvation Army Church in Flint, MI and moved to Harrisburg with her husband in 1937 where she joined the Dorris Heights Methodist Church. She later moved her membership to the Buena Vista Community Church.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing and was an avid sports fan. Ercell loved to watch her grandchildren play ball and was Cardinal fan for many years. She was a wonderful mother and loved her family visits with all. Her face always lit up with a smile when her grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. Ercell enjoyed reading her Bible and Daily Bread every morning. She was a blessing to all.
Surviving are her daughters Delores Vick of Harrisburg and Paralee (Vick) Scrivner of Mt. Vernon, IL and 1 son Richard (Debbie) Rumsey of Harrisburg. 6 grandchildren, Kathy (Chad) Henken, Kellie (Jim) Storment, John (Jeanne) Scrivner, Mike (Karleen) Scrivner all of Mt. Vernon, IL and Cameron (Amber) Rumsey and Tyler (Amber) Rumsey of Harrisburg, IL. 11 great grandchildren, Hannah and Sam Stroment, Graham and Abby Henken, Daniel Stich, Lee (Becky) Summers, Jacob Scrivner and Dakota Torres all of Mt. Vernon, IL and Hallie Belle Boggess, Millie Mae Rumsey, Emmie Lou Rumsey, Tucker Lewis and Ryder Rumsey all of Harrisburg, IL. 3 great great grandchildren, Cade and Brant Summers and Adalyn Summers all of Mt. Vernon, IL. Nephews, Robert (Rosemary) Glazier, Darreld (Phylis) Glazier and nieces Katheryn (Glazier) Davis and Beverly “Susie Vick” (Jerry) Ralph and Carla Covert along with several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Perry Vick and Bob Rumsey, 1 brother Edward Glazier and 1 sister Eva Fenner, son in law John Scrivner, niece Carol Bassham and 2 nephews, Curtis and Sam Vick.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home with the Rev John Winters officiating and burial will follow in Old Home Cemetery near Eddyville, IL. Friends may call after 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Buena Vista Church or to the Harrisburg Youth Athletics. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
