After 65 years the remains of US Army Reserve Cpl. Edward Lee Borders, a Korean War MIA/POW will return home on Thursday, July 27, 2017. Cpl. Borders was a member of the Army Batter D 82nd Anti Aircraft Artilery Automatic Wheapons Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. He was reported missing in action on February 13, 1951. Later the communist forces reported he died in a POW camp on December 26, 1951
Edward was born on December 25, 1930 in Harrisburg to the late Frank and Edith Borders. He had two brothers, James T. Borders and Robert Charles Borders. Surviving Cpl. Borders are nieces: Phyllis Walker of Marion, IL, Linda Becker of St. Charles, IL, Cindy Easterlin of Charleston, SC and nephews: Fred Borders and Rusty Borders of Harrisburg, IL.
Services for Cpl Borders will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Winkleman officiating and interment with full military honors will follow at Cottage Grove Cemetery east of Harrisburg. Friends may call after 9:00 AM Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
