Obituary for Col. Charles L. Buchanan
- Charles L. Buchanan, 76, of Harrisburg, passed away 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 06, 2016 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Charles was a well known auctioneer throughout the Tri-State region, affectionately known as Col. Charles Buchanan. He was also known for raising livestock in the Pope County and Saline County region and for his penchant in trading in farm machinery and tractors. He was of the Methodist faith and a veteran of the U. S. Army. Charles was born August 16, 1939 in Harrisburg, IL to Emmitt and Lois (Denny) Buchanan. Charles was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann Waddell on December 30, 1961 in Harrisburg, IL. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Buchanan of Harrisburg; daughter, Juli Turner of Harrisburg; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Amy Buchanan of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Kevin (Cassie) Beltz of Harrisburg, Kaci Owens of Harrisburg, Kara (Joseph) Rogers of Wylie, TX, Jenny Buchanan of Harrisburg and Jesse Buchanan of Harrisburg and six great grandchildren, Kaden Beltz, Addison Owens, Jerimiah Owens, Jordan Rogers, RaeLynn Rogers and Laneigh Rogers. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with Pastor Steve Nyberg and Brother Don Hughes officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Interment will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148 or to the American Diabetes Foundation, 425 S. Woods Mill Road, Suite 110 Town and Country, MO 63017; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
